I used to have pet ducks and geese, all different kinds of breeds, from tiny call ducks up to African and Emden geese.
No pet ducks here, but DID have a flock of around 30 mallards arrive on the front yard twice daily for several years a little while back. Sometimes there was up to 60! Think they knew they were on to a good thing with us and 2 other households feeding them. Pretty clumsy to watch when landing on the road lol. awwww!
When I was young we raised a duck and then gave it to a duck farm. It was white. I don't remember much more. Then living in Arkansas we had a family of duck on our pond located on our 40 acres of land. They would bring their little ones up to the house when my mom was in the flower beds and get her to feed them worms. It was soooooo cute! +5

You're reading Has any one ever had a pet duck and what kind was it? I have pekins and a mallard.
Comments
You had a wide and varied assortment then, huh? Have you ever incubated any? I did with Pekin eggs and got all various colored ducks which surprised me! Thanks!

Yes, we used to hatch many eggs, from chicken to turkey and pheasant, ducks and geese, even some quail eggs. But usually the ducks did such a great job setting on them we just let them do it. They always got the temperature and humidity just right. Where we lived it was very hot and dry and it was difficult to regulate the incubator for waterfowl. I was constantly filling the water trough.
Now we have a huge beaver pond here in NY and we ahve ducks and geese who fly in and raise their babies. We've had wood ducks, mergansers and mallards nest and it's so exciting to watch them from afar, but I do miss being 'mom' to the duckings and having them follow us everywhere :-)
