The people have not only the right, but the duty and the means to recall any representative or senator whos constituancy deems unfit to represent their opinions, beliefs and desires.
It's called petition.
Government derives its power from the consent of the governed and the governed is Tominhouston, MRMacrum, Jim in a Nautilus COAT and several million others!
Though in some cases it may be imprudent, the governed certainly do have the right and duty to withdraw that consent outside of the election cycle.

- A valid (no fudging on the signatures) petition trumps all.
  Shooting down a valid petition would be ignoring the 1st 9th and 10th ammendments

Yes, especially when he votes against the people he is representing. He is there to vote the people's way and not his own.

- True, it seems there are problems with both Jefferson and Cao. According to the witnesses Jefferson was not bribed and thus he is innocent, if he allows this to continue his career is over and done with. There is something quite wrong going on with the GOP Governors, today I heard an interview to Governor Schwarzenegger it seems he will leave his party as they have obliged them to sign certain documents on not raising taxes, not receiving tarp money and many other things. He seemed quite annoyed.

- Not too surprising. The wingnuts now in power in the gop were determined to destroy America. Now that they've lost the power to do that, at least they can still destroy what's left of their party.

As to my opinion on whether voters should be able to - no. The Constitution is pretty specific about this. Buyers remorse does not work. They can vote him out in the next election.

I do find his flip flop from what he promised to what he did interesting. It reinforces my feeling that the Republicans are more interested in the party than the country. He may find that his constituency will not like his lack of will under pressure. They might just see him as serving the interests of others and not their interests.

- You my friend ARE the Constitution. Ponder the concepts, read the Declaration and the Constitution Locke and the Federalist. They're as firm today as 200 years ago.

- I tend to believe you are right, MRMacrum. The framers of the Constitution directly considered and rejected the idea of recall for members of Congress. I believe that they knew what they were doing when they gave the power of removal only to Congress itself.
