It's considered one of the wardrobe essentials http://www.thechicfashionista.com/wardrobe-essentials.html "Little black dress -- works with everything. Accessorize it for a more trendy and interesting outfit." But of course not everyone has the essentials in any category; many don't have the food or medicine they need for instance. And some girls will always be happier in Jeans and flannel shirts... to each her own.
