How do you get the old string out of a pearl necklace. The string is stuck.

Cut it on both sides of the pearl and shred it.

Depending what the string is made of, it might be dissolved in some solvent, but you have to be sure it won't harm your pearls. You might be able to get a very thin drill and re-drill the holes. A jeweller might be able to do that.
