Yes, many years ago if you wanted a clean rest room at major places like airports, you had to pay. Doors sometimes cost money as well lol!!!

Ya, when I was in Europe. I found it so hilarious that I had to take a picture of the turnstile. I got some weird looks.

Only in Europe. What's with that anyway? There are so few public toilets and then you may have to pay for the privilege. That's just not civilized, guys.
