Question:

It has been suggested that the career home run record should revert back to Hank Aaron's total of 755, wiping out Barry Bonds' 762 because of alleged steroid use. What do you think?

If Bonds ability to hit those home runs by juicing up in any season can be proved, I don't believe he should get credit for those years.

My emotions are mixed because it takes more than sheer strength to hit home runs. It takes quickness and hand eye coordination...steroids don't give you those, but I have to agree that some of his would not have been HR's if he were not so allegedly artificially strong.

Whether they wipe out the record or not, true baseball fans will consider Hank Aaron the all-time HR king and Roger Maris the single season king.

How very true

I think that it would do damage to the game to alter the book, but I agree that Aaron and Maris are the true kings. +4.

Aaron feels differently about it. I think he wants to avoid controversy and get the game moving on. He is such a classy man, and he will always be the King in my book.

As much as I hate Barry Bonds with all my heart, I just can't see baseball doing that. There's no way to see what records are tainted and which ones aren't. I think all the records will stand, but the last 20 years will always be known as the "steriod era".

Meaning, 25 years from now when a player hits 50 homers, the announcers will say, "No one has hit that many bombs since the Roids era!!"

I despise Barry Bonds and Hank Aaron was my childhood hero but I still think that Bond's record should stand but it should be asterisked with an "Possibly achieved via significant steroid use" explanation. Of course once Bonds is convicted that should be changed to "Achieved via significant steroid use."

That would be sufficient for me and, I think, a fair compromise.

I abhor the fact that PEDs are being used in the MLB as the records are certainly altered forever, but I cannot agree with the career HR record reverting back to Hammerin' Hank. As the lawyers say (and I am not a lawyer), there will start a ‘slippery slope’. Which records need to be reverted and/or no longer recognized? Should we no longer recognize the 7 Cy Young awards by Roger Clemens? Or should Mike Greenwell be recognized as the 1988 American League MVP because Jose Canseco was juiced. Let the records stand and hope that Albert Pujols has the good fortune of continuing his torrid HR pace as well as a long, productive, injury-free career to ultimately overtake Alex Rodriguez's career power numbers.

I can see the merit of either way, but Aaron will always be my King.
