  • What church? If you're speaking in general of church's it varies some have no money and some have plenty...
  • If by 'the church' you mean the entire organisation, it is the largest individual land owner (baring rulers of nations obviously)in the world. Yes, the church is very wealthy.
  • Churches are Surplus, but most churches in england are owned by the church of england via the queen, with that they get all expenses tax free, and dont pay land rent or tax.
  • Yes. Of course this answer should be modified by which church you are talking about. For Example: Mormon Church - Rich Anglican Church - Rich Baptist Church - Not So Rich Sufi Muslim "church" - Downright Poor and, of course, Roman Catholic Church - Single richest organization on the planet. You have to realize that some of these organizations have been collecting (and investing) wealth for a couple thousand years. The Catholic church, during the height of the Inquisition, would execute non-Christians and take all their wealth. The Jews of that time due to the upbringing of their faith were much better schooled and therefore supplied a greater proportion of the wealthier people. During the inquisition, the favourite target were the wealthy Jews. Kill a few heretics and enrich the church with just one burning at the stake. Also given most churches tax free status, they're likely to stay rich in a recession like we face now. Hope this helps.
  • The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is worth billions of dollars, but most of that wealth is tied up in real estate (chapels, temples, and schools). It also has a large stock portfolio. The LdS Church maintains enough liquid assets to pay for its projects in full without having to borrow money.
  • All mainstream churches have a LOT of money. Especially the Catholics and Mormons.
  • Depends on which church and how you define rich. A Protestant Church down the street is worth $2,000,000 and has 200 members. That church is worth about $10,000 per member. The Catholic Church may be worth $10 billion but with over a billion members, that is only about $10 per member. Which church is richest? The Protestant Church may have to pay for the retirement of 2 or 3 people. The Catholic Church has the ultimate responsibility for the lifelong support of over 400,000 priests, over 54,000 religious brothers, and over 760,000 religious sisters worldwide. http://cara.georgetown.edu/bulletin/index.htm With love in Christ
