  • The library with the largest collection of books I have ever visited is the 'National Library' in Calcutta, India. Here they have books published during the 150 years from all over the world. If you need to refer to any out of print book or make a copy of it National Library, Calcutta is the place you must go to. 1200 miles from my home here. . The most interesting library I have visited is the Manuscripts library in Trivandrum, India. Here manuscripts in palmyrah leaves in Sanskrit waiting to be transcribed collected from all over India are stored in weather conditioned moisture controlled rooms. Manuscripts ranging from 5000 years to 500 years in palmyrah leaf originals available to anyone qualified to examine them. • I've been to several university libraries and on online archive of some classics. They are within 30 miles of me (the ones I currently go to when I need to do a literature review). But the online library is close. I just click the link, and I'm there. http://www.gutenberg.org/catalog/
  • I was visiting my son in northern California years ago and I was also doing some research for a project at work. I happened upon a Law Library to which the public would have access. You couldn't check any books out of course, it was simply a research/resource center. I spent a few hours there checking out some things. I felt very privileged in that environment. Happy Wednesday! :)

  • For me, it's been colleges, universities, medical schools, etc (I'm not referring to places where I've been enrolled as a student). I like going to them because their selections are so varied and offer such in-depth material. I can't check anything out from these places, but they allow you to read, do research, let you languish for hours on end, etc. I've done this in the city where I live and when away on business trips, where it's an interesting and inexpensive way to while away boredom/monotony.
  • The Huntington Library In San Marino Ca., About a 3.5 Hr. drive south. Really cool place with a botanical garden, art gallery / museum and a extreme collection of some of the rarest books I've ever seen. Something for everyone.
