  • Considering that no-one in the media (except certain left-wing people) asked what the hell was going on since 2000, then, yes, I think it must be that bad. If people feel that they cannot criticize what is going on as they will be labelled un-patriotic and 'with the terrorists' - how can that help free speech in the media?
  • It gets worse every day. The truth some times hurts. Easiest way is to suppress it.
  • Talking to some of the Americans on here, it would certainly seem so. Unfortunately, it would appear that many of the people who live in the US are simply too fat and apathetic to question why, or even bother to access this kind of information.
  • The comments of Tani & Sakhalinskii pertain to the willingness of people to bother to express ideas contrary to the prevailing sentiment, not to any kind of "not being allowed to" issue. A constitutional guarantee of freedom of the press can't force people to do their civic duty, or the media to present all sides of an issue. But no, the gov't can't force the media to not publish any news or opinions, however slanted.
  • Depends who's doing the report. Anyhow, unless there's some huge right-wing conspiracy that I don't know about, the press can report on whatever the hell they want to (although they will generally report on whatever gets them ratings). People can, for the most part, get whatever public information there is to be had, so I would say freedom of press is currently not threatened in the US.
