either move out there also, or use the phone to stay in contact with her

It is sad to see your girl move away. Now she's a woman and has a husband and someone who is in a way taking the position you once held. But to your question, perhaps a webcam for the both of you and you could have video chat. The only other suggestion I have is to just keep in touch over the phone and emails. Perhaps if you both got a facebook account, people tend to update them often and then you can know what she's doing without having to call her up all the time. Despite it all, technology can be a great tool to keep connected with family and friends (and strangers!) because here I am using technology to answer this :o) Also, maybe setting up a certain time of year, or a few times. To visit her or vice versa, maybe on a random week in the year so you won't have to deal with holiday travels, but seeing her more than just for the holidays will hopefully make you feel closer. Best of luck to you and your daughter!

She's only a phone call away; remember that. And there's the internet. I wish they had it when I moved 13 hours from my family! Your daughter could either make a website (like myspace) and update with photos for you to see so you can see them often or even, I can't remember what it is at the moment; but there is something one of my sisters had that they could talk live and see her in-laws through the computer. It's much easier to stay in touch daily in this day and age. You could always move there but that's a big deal and you don't know how long they will be living in TX. They could be stationed somewhere else. Plan trips. I have family far away but we're always in touch with each other.

My Daughter went to college in the south ten years ago and married a southern man. We talk at least 2x a DAY. I visit 4 x a year. She comes home 3- 4 times a year. We are very close but so far away.

Join a sharing service like a blog, MySpace, or Facebook. The two most popular blogging platforms are WordPress and Blogger. I use Multiply. email; Text Messaging; Instant message such as AIM, MSN, and Yahoo. Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP), like Skype, makes phone calls with computers and the Internet. Rates are low and calls between Skype members are free. Create a family web page or family newsletter. We use Yahoo Groups for ours. It's private for invited members only.

Webcams are really very cheap now, and often sold in sets of two. I know it won't replace being able to actually see your daughter or have her near, but I think it'll be the best thing you can use to see and hear her at the same time (versus phone/e-mail).

Plan dates to go and see them! To offence to you, but 14 hours isn't that much. I traveled in a car for a week. About 14 hours each day. So after that , that time period doesn't seem like that far. The car ride was from Indiana to Alaska!! I love Alaska!
