Actually, if you look at the whole picture from the Republican point of view, they are not smart enough to subvert the inventor.

I think they would be dumb enough to do that. Really? Brainwashing the enemy? You think that's a smart move? Once that news got out it would make the human pyramids at Abu Ghraib look like a slumber party. One of the last things a fundamentalist wants is one of their own to do is leave Islam. How do you think they'd feel if they weren't even leaving Islam of their own accord, but rather being hypnotized to do so? They'd probably see it as their enemy using the failings of the human body (brain) as a way to subvert God's will. I can't imagine something that would infuriate them more. And I'm not even saying this is the primary reason why this is a horrible idea; it's just an argument against its effectiveness.

Republicans are only as good as the boogie man they are using as a threat. Brainwashing terrorist into being kind and honest? Never... they'd have to find another enemy to replace them!

Brainwashing would work at all. We need to do what is already happening in Iraq, rebuilt their country and introduce a democracy they can accept according to their culture and get out of their country. Just see how the Kurds in the north of Iraq are rebuilding and making their northern area of the country like any US state or more so like California, they have received very much money from foreign investors so they are doing very well and there is no violence in their area. We can not brainwash the Afghani [Taliban] they have never been conquered and are too far behind civilization. It is my opinion that they should be left alone to do whatever they want and kill themselves to extinction. I believe they are a lost human group and nothing can help them. If we are afraid of the contagious syndrome in the area take a good look at a map, Afghanistan is land locked and surrounded by: Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan all of them former Russian territories and belong to the C.I.S. all should be protected by Russia. Then there is a very small and difficult terrain limiting with China who can take care of themselves. There is a large border with Pakistan who does not want any help and is giving the Taliban free reign in Pakistani territory. Pakistan borders India we could help India if they accept our help so they will not be invaded by Pakistani + Afghani fighters. Finally there is Iran, we have a lot of work to do there if we wanted to. Why do we have to invent they have nuclear weapons if we know they have low uranium which can not be used for weapons but instead to generate electricity and others for civilian use. We need to have them as friends, to treat them like human beings and to immerse them in the International Community then the danger will disappear in due time.
