No one really know whether MS is inherited or environmental. Scientists are still investigating whether it is in the gene pool or not.

Here's a link to the GENETICS area at the US's National Multiple Sclerosis Society's website: http://www.nationalmssociety.org/about-multiple-sclerosis/who-gets-ms/genetics/index.aspx There's a lot of interest and research in the role genetics might play in ms. Much more will have to be done before there are any definitive answers. There are university studies going on as we speak looking for volunteers (those with ms and their family members). They need family histories, medical files and dna samples to add to their study samples. Lots of exciting genetic clues so far. Lots more research to be done. Seems thus far, genetics may be one piece of a multi-piece puzzle.
