  • When your eyes are closed you can focus on your other senses more easily. I haven't kissed anyone in a long time.
  • Sometimes. but usually not. If I'm kissing a girl then I'm attracted to her and want to see her. but sometimes.. sometimes i don't want any distractions but the feel and experience of the kiss.. then i close my eyes.
  • I'd have to guess it's because we can... feel it more... take it in more then we would otherwise.
  • Maybe it's just a natural response like when sneezing?
  • Because I am farsighted and seeing anyone that close up makes them blurry and hurts my eyes.
  • Adding to what the other ABers said, many people might find it rude if you had your eyes open when kissing. It does make you focused more and get into it more and it just happens (closing your eyes). Some say it makes it more passionate. I personally think when you kiss with your eyes closed, you concentrate on the feeling and the sparks and the love, more than anything you could see visually. It's deep.
  • For the same reason they close their eyes when enjoying a rich piece of chocolate, to savor every moment.
  • It enhances the sensation and sensuality of kissing. When you close your eyes you tend to focus more on the actual process trying to savour the wonderful feeling and trying to increase it more.
  • well because its easier
  • i concentrate more with my eyes closed.lol
  • So I don't have to stare at your forehead.
  • Whenever something is acknowledged as attractive, pleasant, interesting etc, the eyes' pupils are dilated in order to better perceive the "object of attraction", even if the nature of a situation may not relate to visual means of communication. This causes more light to penetrate the eye, resulting in the need to keep the eyes closed for protection from the excessive light.
  • Even though our senses complement one another, they also distract. By 'closing out' as many other senses as possible, it's easier to focus on the touch of kissing. Try it. It's particularly useful to crank up the iPod while getting a shot or some other painful procedure.
  • I think it's just a natural reaction when your eyes are that close to something, like someone's face. If someone were to throw a ball to your face. You may catch it, but the closer it gets, you'll probably close your eyes.
  • I think its so you can "tune out" of the main sense, which is vision. They let their sensitive lips, sense of smell take over to savour the unique tingly, titillating feeling you get. Vision is not involved in the pleasure of kissing, since if your eyes remained open you'd have a strange view of someones eye or cheek. If your eye pupils were looking about 5cm away into the other persons eyes, it would be quite awkward and kill the moment somewhat, we want to forget the outside world and enter paradise. From my experience if something is very close to my face my natural reaction is to close my eyes to protect them.
  • I lost my consciousness for several seconds when a girl kissed me. Well, kissing is a simple thing. Why should that happen? Beloved Kiss: This is the one where time stops, the world disappears, your thinking vanishes, and you become the kiss. As two tongues touch, nerve endings fire off messages to other parts of your body: various muscles clench, your lungs start to work harder and your lips swell (who needs Botox?), to name but a few. As your heart rate increases, your veins dilate and all that rushing blood can make you feel hot and sweaty. The neural cells in your brain begin releasing endorphins - those feel-good chemicals that give you a sense of euphoria as potent as a shot of 'morphine'. http://www.med.miami.edu/communications/som_news/index.asp?id=66 Anyone who has ever been kissed knows that the sensations involved aren't confined to the mouth. Your facial nerve carries impulses between your brain and the muscles and skin in your face and tongue. While you kiss, it carries messages from your lips, tongue and face to your brain to tell it what's going on. Your brain responds by ordering your body to produce: * Oxytocin, which helps people develop feelings of attachment, devotion and affection for one another * Dopamine, which plays a role in the brain's processing of emotions, pleasure and pain * Serotonin, which affects a person's mood and feelings * Adrenaline, which increases heart rate and plays a role in your body's fight-or-flight response When you kiss, these hormones and neurotransmitters rush through your body. Along with natural endorphins, they produce the euphoria most people feel during a good kiss. • I've never kissed anyone in my life.
  • Closed. It is kind of weird open, I feel like a fish!
  • It depends on the situation. In very heated romantic moments: open. In passionate sultry moments: closed.
  • I'd rather kiss their eyes closed.......Hopefully it would'nt have to be in the morning.......would'nt want any of that eye gunk on my lips.
  • Closed definitely. It would be kinda weird staring at the person while kissing.
  • Alternating closed with occasional glances and smiles at one another.
  • Closed.
  • I prefer to kiss eyes closed. Eyeballs are kinda slimy and feel funny on my lips.
  • It hurts to have your naked eyeball kissed.
  • I'd prefer mouth open, tongue in.;-)
  • Eyes closed..it's not polite to stare.
  • definetly closed. I find staring at the person who has their tongue in my mouth is a tad bit uncomfortable.
  • closed, it's intimate... open is downright creepy :)
  • closed unless butterfly kissing :)
  • Closed...I tend to get the giggles if they're open.

  • There is a 2 way point of view. I like it more when eyes r closed, but there r sometimes when i really do like to watch the person i love, kissing me with her eyes closed. And then again, there r times when kiss is with eyes open for both of us, like just a sign that we do care and like each other. There r lot of ways for a kiss so its hard to explain every kiss in few lines.
  • I think its because.. well if u kiss with your eyes open you in a sense don't think much of it and your not in tune with the other person. Closed you get that sense of passion and connectivity between the two people and it really comes down to weather or not ur feelings about the person are true enough ..and yeah starring into ones eyes while kissing is creepy
  • Yes!To concentrate on how kiss feels!
  • It's good to not stare right at the person when kissing because that's just rude. /also, it's awkward for both people looking straight at each others eyes.
  • Yes ! I kiss with my eyes closed because to do otherwise is just plain creepy.
  • think about it, if you close one sense off you can feel more in another sense. same with sex, when i have sex i close my eyes and focus on how it feels, the pleasure of it. yes i do close my eyes when i kiss. especially if im making out, its better to focus on his tongue in my mouth rather then the look of his face pressing into mine.
  • Because human interaction is determined by sensory perception. The eyes working on something up that close while the body is paying attention to something else with that much intent... They might just tell the brain. "What in the hell are you doing?" and overload the whole system and completely ruin the mood. *Disclaimer. Only kiss with your eyes open when you are wearing beer goggles!
  • Touch transcends sight, simply. You need not see what you already feel.
  • Inhances (did I spell that wrong?) the senses... but why is opening them creepy? I find it cute if you occasionally peek at each other and smile : ) ...plus its fun to see their reaction!
  • "No, I open them during intervals!!"
  • I always do it with my eyes shut wide open!!!
  • I think people naturally close their eyes because it relaxes you and makes you concentrate on the kiss. Also because having something or someone so close to you (less than a few centimeters) is hard to focus your vision and it is distracting. I usually kiss with my eyes closed, but sometimes I open them when I'm in a playful mood. I'll make faces, or cross my eyes while kissing. Like I said, something unexpected and playful. It depends on the moment :)
  • It'd be a little awkward if you were just staring at each other... It'd just be uncomfortable.
  • It seems to be some kind of reflex. If I'm not thinking about it, I even close my eyes when people in a movie kiss.
  • So they can pretend that they are kissing someone else.
  • i read about this somewhere. when you bring an object very close to your eyes, it becomes blurred and looks funny...similarly, imagine your partner's face so close to you that it may look weird and may be a turn off! so maybe people close eyes..
  • yes i do. When you close your eyes that means you trust the person.
  • Maybe it is because people are relaxing the muscles in their face. It probably makes everyone feel more comfortable.
  • I honestly think people are too ugly up close. You don't want to think about how awkward that persons forehead is from this angle or what condition their pores might be in when you are trying to find pleasure in being "close" to them. That would explain why even friendly kisses (mother to child) are done with closed eyes.
