Help answer this question below.
I use them in the same amounts for both. However....
The supermarket or health food store "sea salt" has been totally refined. At its origin, it may have come from the sea, but:
It has been harvested mechanically from dirt or concrete basins with bulldozers and piped through metal conduits;
put through many degrading artificial processes;
heated under extreme heat levels in order to crack its molecular structure;
robbed of all of its essential minerals that are essential to our physiology;
These elements are extracted and sold separately to industry. Precious and highly prized by the salt refiners, these bring more profits than the salt itself.
further adulterated by chemical additives to make it free- flowing, bleached, and iodized.
To call what remains "sea salt" would be quite misleading.
In addition, harmful chemicals have been added to the processed, altered unnatural substance to mask and cover up all of the impurities it has. These added chemicals include free flowing agents, inorganic iodine, plus dextrose and bleaching agents.
Standard salt additives: Potassium-Iodide (added to the salt to avoid Iodine deficiency disease of thyroid gland), Sugar (added to stabilize Iodine and as anti-caking chemical), Aluminum silicate.

Just to add to the already abundant and good information provided by retroglide...
Sea salt will do the same to your arteries and blood pressure as table salt. They are both primarily the same chemical compound. If your sea salt contains a good percentage of potassium based salt (rather than sodium based salt) only then will it be less harmful for you than table salt. Otherwise... all salt in moderation.
And iodised salt is indeed a good idea to stick with :)
nothing
salt is salt any way you slice it.
its the lattest scam out there.
the only difference is sea water is avaporated and the refined salt is micron size verses salt that is mined,that salt has to be sized,screened,and cleaned.
bottom line is this.
salt is salt one is not better for you then the other.
sea salt takes less refinning thus they make a lot more money from it.
but you pay more because the scam is to lead you to think its better for you.

You're reading What is the difference between sea salt and regular table salt. I know the basic difference but I mean in usage. Do you use them in the same amounts in cooking or baking. Supposedly sea salt is healthier - is it?

I just needed salt and thot 'd give a try. It is iodised and also has other odd sounding stuff in it that can't remember right now. I only use salt in the cooking process and very seldom salt my food once it is on the plate. Just needed to know if you use the same amounts for cooking. Your answer was very helpful, TKS a lot.
