Here are a couple sites that may help make things more clear I hope; http://bloggersblurt.wordpress.com/2006/09/17/ widget-wizardry/ http://bloggersblurt.wordpress.com/2007/01/25/ understanding-blogrolls-links-and-categories/ http://ezinearticles.com/?What-Are-Widgets?&id=1266140

Sometimes. I think what makes it most difficult for me is when it's written by programmers for programmers. In a nutshell "widgets" are a separate, stand alone, program that run in a larger, separate, environment to preform a specific function. Like an advertisement or game on your blog or web page.

I know this joke doesn't make much sense any more, but some people might remember PC cards: People Can't Memorize Computer Industry Acronyms PCMCIA

most of it is based on slang that caught on, leaving names like "mouse" "floppy" and "chip" up to chance. but in a way it feels natural to me, like any groupe you associate with the slang catches on and feels normal. but imagine taking a country boy into a "crips blessing" and see if he can figure out whats going on.

It's a whole new thing for me too yarnlady. I sometimes answer a question then find the abreviations don't mean what I thought they did.

No. I am a g33k of t3h old sk00l, so I am familiar with both haXXor humor and text-speak as the latter evolved from a period where reducing the character count in a message was an essential skill. I am also a former member of the military, king of acronyms and abbreviations. PMS, EOSS, POD, QD, OOD, LPO, LCPO, Cheng, Suppo, Divo .... you get the idea. For the record, I was an EM3 ;)
