Headaches after a stroke is uncommon, however, they may occur for the following reasons: A redirection of blood flow when healthy arteries stretch and grow to supply blood to the part of the brain that has lost its normal supply: Stretching of the brains covering from scarring, swelling or atrophy of the brain: Small amounts of bleeding into the area of the old stroke (less likely): A small tear in an artery (also unlikely). I think that you should speak with the doctor again and request that he does a scan of the brain and its blood vessels, if the images do not show any major problems it probably means that the headaches are not likely to be anything serious. As for the blood results white cells elevating can happen for other reasons apart from infection, certain medications or bleeding can elevate the white cell count as well as bacterial infection.
