  • Only indirectly. The DEA is under the Department of Justice. If you are looking for a lessening of the enforcement and penalties for the distribution and use of illegal drugs during Obama's administration, better forget it. It ain't gonna happen. He cannot "dictate" any laws. None. Just because he can appoint the heads of departments of government does not mean he can make any laws. All laws..or changes in laws..must come through the Congress and Supreme Court. We don't elect dictators or kings in the US, though many still seem to think we do.
  • I thought that POTUS was in charge of everything, either directly or indirectly. :)
  • THIS IS MY RESPONSE TO THE COMMENTS IN ANSWER 2 FROM TOM47.... AND CANNABIS... There is only one war on drugs and it increases in scope daily. For the folks who know how to use these drugs, there is no problem. It's the abuse of them that creates a problem. I'm tired of this piecemeal effort to glorify one drug over another. It's discrimination and it's wrong! If someone is succesful in this world and huffs gasoline what concern is it of ours. The U.S. Government doesn't care that's why gasoline is not a controlled substance. And they wouldn't have to care about anyone if they provided the right education. You can't believe what the media says. For 14 years (1979 - 1993), I used Desoxyn (methamphetamine hydrochloride) on a daily basis. My 2.0 GPA doubled in 6 months and while I was using methamphetamine I became a very successful aerospace engineer with a top secret clearance needed to work on spook projects for the government while working for Grumman... During the same period, I began working for the NASA, managing the design of the communications and tracking system with a personal and team goal to make the space station the most successful mission ever launched into orbit. After 1993, I couldn't get Desoxyn; I discovered that GHB, at that time sold in health food stores, was a better medication for narcolepsy. In 2001, I could no longer get that or any medication so I lost my job and became a disabled vegetable. You have to remember, our corporations throw tons of chemicals into the air every day that are destroying the Earth including us, and as punishment, they get a tax break. When a person tries to improve their lives using medicinal, recreational, or performance-enhancement drugs, our lives are turned to pulp. We are jailed, separated from our families -- if they could, they'd nail us to crosses and stick us on the sides of the road like they did in the old days. Humanity is NOT very intelligent. What little we use of our brains is the only parts that THINK that way and that's about all that our empty heads are used for. As far as statistical information is concerned 77% comes from a 2005 poll... you can find the source of that on my website (http://www.DrugUseEducation.org) Personally, in my door-to-door campaign I've seen about 97% of the population that wants the WOD to end. NO ONE WANTS THE WOD. Even our politicians don't want it. Wait until the economy bottoms out and you'll see how many support the WOD... on crack, heroine, pot... whatever. It's about time we all united with just one goal. EDUCATE our younger generation so they won't be as "Dopey" about drugs as the generations are today. Thank you for your comments. I appreciate them.
  • Yes... Indirectly and directly if the situation warranted such action. And I agree with the video that the time has come to stop the U.S. Government from fostering support for a drug war that it destroying our nation. It's interesting to note that the war on drugs has increased the incidence of drug abuse. We know this not by the false numbers reported from the ONDCP but by the number of drug overdose fatalities which has increased from under 10,000 victims per year during the early 1970s prior to the drug war to over 10,000 victims per year since the drug war started. That figure continues to rise every year. Since 2005, drug related deaths rose sharply above 40,000 per year! With our prisons over-crowded, SWAT raids taking lives of innocent people who never even saw a drug, what the WOD is doing is causing our infrastructure to crumble a great deal more than many will imagine. You or your family could be the next victim of the drug war. Are you prepared to accept that risk? Someone out there reading this won't be lucky. And it makes no difference whether you use drugs or not. The WOD is NOT about drugs; it's about CONTROL! If you're in the way, you and your family will be the collateral damage that results. As a member of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP) I'm well aware of the thousands of false targets that are impacted every year. Even those who are totally innocent are serving time in our prisons... Write your Senators and Congressman. Tell them you are tired of living on a battlefield. Then write a letter to Obama, and tell him you want to see CHANGE in our drug policy. Who knows? You could be saving your life or the life of a loved one. Thank you!
  • It seems like he has control of everything. He is starting his dictatorship. Sorry but this is how I feel.
