Different types of sharks have 'favourite' foods. The Great White apparently really likes seals. From below the water a seal and sea otter look very similar. Great whites will attack both of these. An otter floats, but a seal sinks when they die. A Great White will go for the sinking seal, but will usually leave the otter. One reason may be that otters provide few calories compared to seals which contain a lot more fat. Because of this, perhaps their tastes are not as tuned in to these animals. Great Whites often attack penguins too, but as with sea otters, they rarely eat them. . This is just information I have gathered from documentaries and internet searches. I can't really vouch for the accuracy of it.
