I think it is both, they need to grab your attention so it becames breaking important news so you will watch that channel so they're ratings will be good while they are reporting that the catastrophe of the rising cost of seafood is going to cause a global meltdown. And i sit here not living beyond my means with a roof over my head enough food in my belly and a little heater to keep what i need warm. thats all the news i need.

Media hype has always done damage to any thing and nobody can do about it...it acts like a fast spreading disease.

Mostly facts that they are emphasizing. They seem to overhype most news these days. Everything is categorized as 'Breaking news' also.
