The 2800-3000 RPM in park is part of the engine controllers programming. It is there so you cant over-rev the engine. That is the way it is supposed to be. As far as the jerky/stalling issue you may need to clean the throttle body and make sure all the idle air passages and the idle air valve are clean.
Does the 4.6l 2002 Ford Explorer engine have a timing chain or belt?

You're reading 2001 explorer sport wont rev past 3000rpm when I have it in park. I put the peddle to the floor and it just does this surging like rev and goes between 2800rpm & 3000rpm (only in park) why? And when slowin down gets jerky & wants 2 stall? 131,000KMS HELP!
