Learn to live with the fact that it will be lost Kirstie. Seriously. Don't pack anything that you can't afford to lose and document everything of value that you do pack in your luggage. Also, make sure it's insured. You may well find however that in fact the real fear is not about your luggage. That's a way for your subconscious to present you with fear in a manageable fashion and for you to be aware of something else that might be worrying you. Bringing the underlying fear out in to the open may well banish this fear of losing your luggage.

carry your essentials in a carry-on.

carry an extra change of clothes and medication and all valuables like camera's etc.. on a carry on bag. Keep it with you. It will help alleviate your fears if something does happen. Have fun...flying is great!

airlines are almost always able to get the luggage wherer it needs to go. if your flight gets delayed or cancelled, or you have to switch to another flight or airline, then you have cause for concern. but if your flight and connection go as planned, then the odds are very good that your luggage will arrive with you. in case it doesn't, pack essential supplies (like miniature toiletries) in your carry-on bag. put in some clothes too, if you can fit it, along with any essential paperword and things you must have if your luggage doesn't make it. if you can avoid checking bags at all, do so.
