Well that all depends on what you beleive in. If your religious then you beleive where/when your religion tells you it did. But if your not then its thought that there are a couple of places called a cradle of civilization. Most commonly known are around the mediterranean sea. Also in east asia and north america.

If by "civilization" you mean an organized culture and society, then we simply have no idea. If by "[ancient] civilization" you mean a Bronze Age urban culture, then the answer's easier - or at least generally accepted. These "civilizations" began in the major river valleys of the Nile, the Jordan, the Tigris, the Euphrates, the Indus, and Yangtzee all about 5-6000 years ago.
