  • John was the last of the canonical gospels to be written - around 90 - 95AD. This is over 60 yrs after Jesus supposedly died and the high standard of Greek used in its writing strongly suggests that it was not actually written by the disciple John. It contains key elements and concepts that are not included in the other gospels which strongly suggets that it was not written by an eye witness to the events that it describes and is often thought to be the least reliable of the 4 gospels. For example; the raising of Lazarus (arguably Jesus's greatest miracle). It is inconceivable that the other gospels would not have included this event if it had actualy happened, yet there is no mention of it at all. In my opinion it is the most intelligently written gospel and does indeed strongly proclaim Jesus's divinity. But the question remains - is it true? From a theological viewpoint and to use the cliche .. it's just too good to be true.
