  • This question has been pondered for years. There has even been university research on the subject, and I don't think it has yet been answered. It must be a particularly difficult area of research when you consider that different things amuse different people. I remember, as a child, all of my family being in fits of laughter at a television comedian - except for my brother, who found nothing funny in it at all. Also, look at the difference in television comedy shows produced in the USA and Britain. Despite sharing a common language we often find the program from our own country more amusing and can't really understand what is supposed to be funny about the shows from the other country.
  • Thanks
  • A lot of it has to do with an unexpected twist in the punchline.
