Elephant hunting: I just accidentally watched an Elephant being shot twice (and killed) for the fun of it on one of those joy of killing (hunting) shows. It was legal, and sanctioned. How do you feel about killing Elephants for fun? I am disgusted!

Sounds to me like a cull, or possibly putting down a rogue elephant. Culls are extremely uncommon now, but do happen. And elephant do go rogue every now and then, killing people and other elephants. In the end, barring the incredible unlikelihood that they were showing an illegal hunt, you would do well to compare it to a humane society putting down excess animal or dangerous animals. From the sounds of your question, you were probably most offended by the way that it was presented (doubtlessly with enthusiasm and excitement). Some things just have to be done.

How is it legal? They are an endangered species! One of the big 5 even if I am correct. I would question the legality of such act. Humph. How sickening.

Sick. It's really sickening to watch. Elephants are gentle giants and they truly have feelings. I saw part of a documentary where a herd of elephants ended up in an elephant graveyard where the mother of one of the young ones had died and after all the time that had passed, she still recognized her mother's carcas and went over and caressed it with her trunk. Very, very sad!

I could excuse taking the life of an animal if one's life is in absolute peril, or kill an animal to feed your family when there's no other options available; but it greatly disturbs me the idea of taking the life of an animal just for "fun". It's bad enough that we snatch them from their own habitat and put them in cages for our own amusement.

And rightly so. The poor animals don't have a chance. It IS absolutely disgusting. Just so some idiot can hang a head of his wall. I would love to hang their head on my wall.
