  • In some religious denominations it is only acceptable to say the word hell when referring to Hell itself, otherwise it would be considered rude. Apparently that kind of religious thinking influenced our culture. Or something like that.
  • I never seen it is a swear or curse word. But then to me any word used in such a manner of wishing badly of anyone is a swear word and words some choose to label as a swear word if used in a non harming manner but lacks proper definition is only a slang word.
  • because of the context that it is used in. Merely referring to hell in the religious sense is not considered a swear word. There are other words in the English language that become profanity only in certain context. "Pussy" can be perfectly innocent. The same goes for "cock", "ass" and others. It is the meaning behind the usage that give it the designation.
