Why do some people feel as though they need to keep score? I once dated someone who would 'get me back' if/when I'd questioned him or was upset with him for something he said/did - there had been no retaliation on my part I was reacting 2 something he did

This is a control issue, wherein the person feels that he/she needs to punish you for what you've done and "teach you a lesson." In fact, they feel out of control, and use this to try to establish some form of control. This is the heart of abuse. Abuse is characterized by love, lack of compassion, low self-esteem, and a need to feel in control. Abuse is NOT a relationship issue. Abuse is a self-regulation issue.

"Keeping score" is a habit of weak, insecure people. Smile and move on.
