Question

Help answer this question below.

My 16 month old cat has started hissing at her kittens who are now 5 months old. They have lived together quite happily up until about 2 months ago but now she hisses at them whenever she sees them and chases them out of her way. Can anyone advise?

It sounds to me like she is trying to get them to move out, lol. Seriously, in nature, mothers will force their offspring to leave them, and go out on their own, so she is doing what nature intended. If you are going to keep the kittens, she will eventually get used to them being around and not hiss at them as much. I have 2 grown kittens and their mother, she did the same thing, but now they all play together and get along fine.

Time to find them new homes. Cats do not normally live in extended families

That happens but they will get along as the mother gets used to them being in the same house.
