Because of the mind altering chemicals that the government allows the tobacco companies to add to their product. I know from experience how hard it is to quit. Makes me wonder why someone hasn't opened a chain of smokers rehabs?

Yes it was, and I cheated for about a year or two, but still didn't smoke regularly. That was 18 years ago. I have been smoke free for 16 years!!!
