  • she was on her period. most likely no, not the fertile part of her cycle.
  • I doubt you would be able to have proper sex with her if she was wearing a tampon. I would not recommend it as it could be dangerous.
  • and its always possible to get pregnant unless your infertile
  • Yes, she could. If any of the ejaculate was close to the cervix, the tampon would absorb some, but hold the rest in place near the cervix, making pregnancy --more-- likely, not less likely. However, as noted by another answerer here, most women have low risk of fertility at that time. Usually, a new egg is not released until the uterine lining is shed (that's her period) and a new lining is starting. But -- you can't be certain of that. Some women release multiple eggs in a cycle; some women release eggs earlier or later than average; and you cannot know exactly whether an egg is present or not on a particular day during her period. It's not a good idea to have sex while a tampon is in place. Aside from possibly being uncomfortable for both of you, a man could get significant abrasions from the string which is used to remove tampons. The strings are deliberately made a little bit rough, to make them easier to pull. For the woman, there's an extra risk that the tampon will trap whatever bacteria or viruses were on the penis and hold them in the vagina for a longer-than-natural time, increasing risk of infection. The tampon does not provide "barrier contraception" the way a diaphragm or contraceptive sponge does: diaphragm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diaphragm_%28contraceptive%29 contraceptive sponge http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contraceptive_sponge all barrier contraceptives http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Barrier_contraception The best barrier contraception is a condom, which, unlike the other methods, also protects both partners from transmission of the HIV virus which leads to AIDS. A tampon provides no barrier at all, and as I said in the beginning, may help hold the sperm in place. People who are having trouble conceiving are usually told by their infertility consultants to put a tampon in after sex, to try to keep the sperm as close to the cervix as possible for as long as possible. Here's a nice short answer to a question almost exactly like yours, written by a gynecologist: http://health.ivillage.com/gyno/gynobc/0,,1d8,00.html Hope this answers your question; it's a big responsibility. Good luck! LATE UPDATE: A lot of people who have answered you are puzzled about how intercourse can occur with a tampon in. Here's a similar question answered by a health site, which explains how intercourse can take place despite the tampon, and explains that tampons are useless as a contraceptive method: http://health.ivillage.com/gyno/gynobc/0,,1d8,00.html The column, written by a doctor, also explains why it is possible to get pregnant during a menstrual period.
  • How can you have sex with a tampon inside the vagina? Seems very unlikely. Is this question serious?
  • Once again another ignorant teenager dicing with death. USE A CONDOM AND THIS WONT BE A PROBLEM!!! How many times do I have to say this. Would you rather try your chances at catching or spreading a disease or leave the bed with a clear conscience? Think about the other person in the bed with you. This is your life, it is not a joke. Do you want to be a father at your age? THINK PEOPLE THINK...
  • Okay, this is a dumb question. 1) WHY would you have sex with a tampon in? It could cause many dieases if she got it stuck. 2) USE a condom, even IF she is on her period. It is still very possible for her to get pregnant when she is on her period, no matter what anybody says. 3) YOU seem to be too young to have sex anyway. So don't stress it.
  • There is always a chance of pregnancy with unprotected sex. First and foremost, you should probably understand the process of sex and reporduction before engaging in it. You don't just get into a car and drive without knowing how. USE PROTECTION. Is your future or health worth a few minutes of pleasure? USE PROTECTION. Not only can you impregnate a woman but you can contract or pass along a sexually transmitted disease. Either scenarios will change your life forever. USE PROTECTION.
  • If you ejaculated inside or even close to her vagina ,tampon insertion or not of course she can get pregnant
  • What a crap question. Do you think you could at least be troubled to make yourself look slightly better by using correct terminologies like "ejaculating"? EDIT: Since I went to that trouble, I might as well answer your question. It is very unlikely that a woman would become pregnant during menstruation, but still possible.
  • Munchkin, I'm glad the IVF worked for you, congratulations! :) However, though you may use it as shorthand for "assisted conception" (covering all kinds of methods), IVF is a specific reference to *In *Vitro *Fertilization. You began your answers assuming the female was menstruating and that that was why the tampon was present. We don't know that. Maybe she was, maybe she wasn't. Either way, the tampon will not prevent pregnancy and will, in fact, enhance the possibility of pregnancy. If they had sex during her menstrual flow, she is less --likely-- to get pregnant, but it is far from impossible. Keep in mind that healthy motile sperm can live for three to five days, and even if menstrual blood was present, it's not likely that someone who is asking us if tampons are effective birth control is going to know exactly where his girlfriend is in her ovulation cycle (especially if they are teens and her cycles are unstable.) That's all. The person who asked now has a variety of answers to choose from, and I trust him to figure things out for himself from here without more commentary from me. And again, congrats on your good fortune. :)
  • How in the heck did you have sex with your gf if she had a tampon in? And yes, she could still become pregnant that way. Why didn't you use a condom? IT'S 2007-STD'S and AIDS are REAL!
  • ...how in the hell did you even accomplish that? Tampons generally do not allow for much more to enter the vagina. Really. That is nearly unfathomable. but yeah. any ejaculation even near the vagina can result in pregnancy.
  • If a woman is having a regular menstrual cycle, about once a month, then it is unlikely, but possible, for her to get pregnant during menstruation. The eggs usually develop for a two week period following menstruation, and are then released from the ovary, and for the next few days travel down the fallopian tubes, into the uterus. From there the egg expires, and the lining of the uterus begins to slough off. After a a week and a half the lining of the uterus, and the egg, are expelled during menstruation. Thus, the period of fertility is three days, in the middle of the cycle, about two weeks before and after menstruation. Very few women have cycles which conform exactly to the schedule, so the eggs could develop and discharge a week before or after they are expected, so there is a high risk of pregnancy from one week before or after menstruation. Also, if there is a shift in the cycle, an egg could develop on the new cycle, which is overlapping with the old one, and it is possible for eggs to develop simultaneously or nearly so, instead of alternating between the two ovaries. Thus there is a risk, though much smaller, of pregnancy at any time, including during menstruation. Some of the factors which could alter the cycle are hormone therapies, progesterone based contraceptive methods, norplant progesterone implants, depo provera, stress, unusually active physical exertion, stress and weight loss or weight gain. There are studies that suggest pseudo-estrates, chemicals which mimic hormones like progesterone, may be affecting the sexual development of salmon in local hatcheries where I live, so I guess it is possible that such contaminants could affect human sexual development as well. This could be things like styrofoam and plastics. The tampon is irrelevant. It should have little or no effect, except as a physical barrier to prevent effective copulation, or a make it unappealing. I think you've probably heard a lot about condoms and sexually transmitted diseases already, so I'll just stick to the question. Don't get too distraught over your treatment as a beginner here, there are just certain topics where people get emotional, nothing personal.
  • Just one thing it is NOT safe to have sex with a girl while she has a tampon in and i really hope this wasn't your birth control method! But it is possible for her to be pregnant if you didn't have a condom on.
  • HAHA you just mashed it right in there hey?
  • 1) As a tampon is not a contraceptive, so she could get pregnant. And for other reasons, it is generally not a good idea to keep a tampon inserted during vaginal intercourse. 2) "Q: My husband and I had sex recently, and I completely forgot that I had a tampon in. It didn't hurt, but afterward I had a difficult time finding the string, though I finally did. Could this have damaged me in any way? Should I tell my gynecologist or be concerned? — Jolene, Arkansas A: Many women have experienced a "lost" or "hard to find" tampon string, because of either leaving a tampon in during intercourse or forgetting to remove a tampon in a timely manner. If you haven't experienced any pain or inflammation since the incident, you don't need to be concerned. Some soreness or tenderness might result from slight lacerations or bruising, but this is unlikely and also not a cause for concern. However, in the future always remember to remove your tampon during intercourse and to replace tampons every four to six hours to prevent an infection." • Tampons are used to soak up period blood.CONDOMS are used to prevent pregnancy. If you had sex and cummed in her then you probably will have got her pregnant.I'm hoping for her sake that you will do the right thing and support her )maybe get a job) and things will be fine.
