If after several failed decent requests I decide to rob a Christian bookstore but used all of the proceeds to sustain a soup kitchen for the unemployed and uncared for vulnerable members of the society, would that still be considered a sin?

Yes! A bookstore or any store stocks goods that they had to pay for. They only make a tiny bit on the top of the price of each item, so robbing a small store would put them in debt and possibly cost the owners their home ans well a their livelihood. It doesn't make any difference what the subject matter of the books is.

Yes! Rob a bank instead. At least you would be using taxpayers money for something it should be being used for.

Sin is a religious concept so it would only be a sin to you if you were religious. It would only be wrong to you if stealing was against your own personal moral code. However, under the law it is still stealing whatever the purpose or reason and so therefore illegal and you are likely to be prosecuted for it.

Yes. There are funds available for maintaining soup kitchens. Robbing is stealing, stealing is wrong. It is basic by virtue of being one of the ten commandments.

Ah, the Robin Hood defense. Not sure if it is a sin, but certainly illegal and since laws are created by standards by which society dictates, than yes, it is a sin. Simple rule: The ends don't justify the means.

Sounds like a bad plan. The employees of the bookstore will be unnecessarily traumatized. The owner of the bookstore may get reimbursed by an insurance company, but it will just increase the rates for everyone in the neighborhood. There may be an under cover cop or a citizen with a conceal carry permit. If the robber were to produce a weapon and threaten them, they will have every right to shot defend themselves.

Not a valid defense. A Christian bookstore does not make enough money to sustain a soup kitchen for more than 27 seconds.

didn't moses open the grain vaults to feed the people of egypt...or was that someone else...Marc Anthony or someone...but then one of the commandments is thou shalt not steal...which would make it stealing...but then what about taxation to feed the homeless...that would be a sin too...but then the people from the bookstore would need the soup kitchen and you might accidently kill one of the workers robbing the place...so its a coin toss...best ask a member of the clergy...or pray to God if you belive in God for the truth...but then is it a sin for a christian bookstore to rob a soup kitchen to give books to charity? its a slippery slope...best not to do it...I would say its a sin...Just because a person opens a christain bookstore doesn't mean that they have to be christian...I would think that if there is a God that he would like more effort in coming up with a better soultion than just robbing people...

Aha! Very much the Robin Hood dilemma! I'm wondering what your failed decent requests were for...? What are the grades/shades of wrongdoing? Will this be black and white or sliding down the slippery-slope of relativism? Perhaps a forgivable sin, or maybe a well-meaning crime, heroic to boot, done by a thief with a conscience (beset by an attack of the guilts). I love questions like this... very challenging and illustrative of the complexities we often face in this our post-modern world {(~_~)}

I think that all depends on your views and beliefs I don't think it's a sin and i think you did the right thing. If all things you can pay the book store back for it later if it makes you feel better
