We chose a cat because she is quiet, does not bark and does not be lead outside in odd hours - and she can stay home alone for quite some time, if she has enough water and food and the airconditioner is set right.

Cats are like a feed and forget kind of a thing. That's a good enough reason to choose them.

You don't have to take them out to go to the bathroom. They don't bark all the time. They don't jump all around on you. They don't always want to play. & their quiet & more independent than dogs. But also they will sit with you & you can pet them & also play at times too.

I had both cats and dogs but I think that although cats are cuddly and affectionate in their own way, dogs have the most doggone expressions...

I've kept both cats and dogs in my pet-filled life, and both have their positives and negatives, but mostly positives. Cats are clean, you don't have to walk them everyday, they are quite independent so you can go to work and leave them unattended for a few hours. They are small enough for an apartment, and they do not require a lot of food. On the down size, they can scratch and damage furniture, you have to change their litter box regularly, and they are not as faithful as dogs. They are still loving, but they don't show it in the same, overwhelming way like dogs do. Dogs, on the other hand are undyingly loyal and show their affection towards you greatly, they are highly protective, and they seem to "connect" with you better than cats. On the downside, they are generally bigger than cats and need more food, and you have to walk them several times a day to relieve themselves and give them exercise. You can't leave them by themselves for long, as they are highly attached to their owners and are emotionally dependent.
