I whole heartedly agree. Make English the official language here in the US.
-
YES!! That's my comment. More cities and towns should take Nashville's lead and do the same!
-
Wow im moving to Nashville!
-
Well, hurray for Nashville!! Good luck on getting this passed. More cities, states, companies, and the Federal Government should take a lesson from Nashville.
-
What's the controversy? English is the National Language. When I go to France, Germany or Japan, I'm not betting that I can get by looking for English signs and such. If I did, I'd be ARROGANT!

English should NOT be the official language. It can the the first language, but not the only language. This measure is a big waste of money and time, the safe vote is to vote NO. the sooner it goes away, the better it will be. No city must go down this route. you can do English first, but not English only. This shall not pass.

CLAP CLAP CLAP, Nashville, get ready because here we come! Excellent example of how it SHOULD BE. If the U.S. will not have all contracts etc.,. in ALL languages, then it should be in just one language, and that is ENGLISH. Don't know it? LEARN IT. My grandparents did! OH, and legally too!

It's about friggin time!
-
sounds about right to me.

It's important to have a standard that all citizens understand. English should be it here in the US. English is the language we teach in our schools and new citizens are required to learn English. Why would we allow important legal documents to be filed in a language the general population cannot read? All legal documents in the United States (contracts, judgments, suits, wills, etc.) SHOULD be in English. It's common sense.

TENNESSEE CODE ANNOTATED, THROUGH 1993 SUPPLEMENT Section 4-1-404 –English and Legal Language (1984) English is hereby established as the official and legal language of Tennessee. All communications and publications, including ballots, produced by governmental entities in Tennessee shall be in English, and instruction in public schools and colleges of Tennessee shall be conducted in English unless the nature of the course would require otherwise. That law has been on the books for Tennessee as a whole since 1984. This means, if Nashville is not doing it, they are breaking state law.

I live here too and to see the Governor's wife marching down the street in protest almost made me sick. Another thing, the city is facing a budget shortfall and they are thinking about laying off 2000 state employees, but he can build a multi million bunker? What's right with that??? Anyone that has been on Nolensville Rd. in a while knows you almost need a passport to go there. I am very tired of it myself. Ok You got me on my soapbox,,,,,I know when it's time to step down. Thanks. Loved this question because it's my back yard.

Voting day is about here. I will advise on the results.

I see by the previous posts that this means the State government of Tennessee. Hurrah! for the government of Tennessee! Praise them with great praise! . The issue cannot be “up for a vote by the people,” since it is already a State law. . If the same policy is not adopted by the Federal government, and that VERY soon, then America will soon be a third-world nation, bankrupt and indebted to future generations and a plethora of foreign countries, lacking a common cultural identity, unable to establish communication between multiple millions of our own residents and citizens. There will be mass race-hatred, gang violence in the streets in broad daylight, street signs in Spanish, Chinese and VietNamese, ballots in three or more languages, and we will have to “press one for English.” Hmmm. All of the above is already true. And America is the ONLY nation that has NO official language.

Local/State governments are having trouble paying their bills, the economy is in the toilet, I know lets spend a crap load of money on a complete b.s. issue. Those idiots should be ashamed.
