  • A consumer that uses reusable grocery bags, buys cleaning products that are green (no chemicals or few), buys less products that ready to eat/make, buys local dairy/fruit/meat. Buys energy efficient appliances. Turns off electronics (unplugs), when not in use. Uses more electric than gas.

  • Shoppers whose values and physical health and wellness are largely driven by the association that they make between organic foods and sustainability. They deeply consider such issues as a "desire for a healthier community" and "locally grown" products. They articulate values such as being "eco-responsible" and a "desire for a healthier planet," as well as being conscious about how their actions are part of the "web of life." They are very concerned about the planet that we share.
  • Consumer purchases of green or sustainable products are not just motivated by the products themselves, but by the values they represent. They try to save the planet, from pollution, waste of energy, and etc….

  • I think of the term more as about what we choose to buy, what suppliers we reward with our money, than how we personally shop. I walk to the market and carry a backpack so there is no need for a bunch of plastic bags. That's a green way to shop, but doesn't make me a green shopper. Buying products designed for a sustainable footprint on earth makes me a green shopper, because I am rewarding companies that are doing their part to clean up the environment and depriving big polluters of that cash.
