  • The Cowsills sang "Hair", Muddog. Both of these songs were anthems for a young hippie wannabe in the late 60's, early 70's.
  • G'day Muddog, Thank you for your question. Signs was a top 5 US hit for the Canadian Five Man Electrical Band in 1972. It was originally a B-side to their unsuccessful 1970 single "Hello Melinda Goodbye". It was released on their second album "Goodbyes and Butterflies" and released as a single late in 1971. It became a hit in 1972. Tesla recorded a version of it for the Five Man Acoustical Jam album in 1991 and reached the top 10. Fat Boy Slim sampled the intro from the Five Man Electrical Band for his track "Don't Let The Man Get You Down" from his Palookaville album. I have attached sources for your reference. • In 1979 I met a guy on a Greyhound bus going from Spokane to somewhere near Seattle who said he wrote the lyrics. He said the group that recorded it didn't give him credit. He was in his 20s (as was I) and said he was returning from a trip to his ex's to bury a daughter hit by a car. I believed him. Writing it up now, though, I might have to agree with my more cynical husband that maybe he was just feeding me lines. But whatever, we did have a great trip in the backseat of that bus as it traveled thru the night ....
