Interesting idea, but you wouldn't be able to sew through it or do the knotting thing, or the dampness would come right through. Maybe some kind of adhesive would work, for keeping the three layers together.

Most people place a plastic liner on the ground and then the quilt on top--this will avoid grass stains as well. I'm curious as to why you would consider the shower curtain as the batting and not the backing. I don't know how your idea will work out, but if you try it, please post it. I think the idea is interesting. Also, I'd love to see a pic of your "sloppy quilt". Please post it if you can. :D

I think using the shower curtain as a ground cover makes a lot more sense. Also consider using a spray finish, such as scotch guard applied directly to the finished quilt.
