By first listening to the other's possible contrary views, minimizing personal emotion to the extent possible. By assessing the validities and shortcomings of said views. Contrasting them on both scores with my own views. Presenting same, hoping, by example, that such is reciprocated and a non-reactionary understanding and compromise may be reached that is rewarding to both parties...and, more importantly, to all affected.
