A few of them are, most can be interpreted that way eg: ENVY - covetting what others have LUST - covetting your neighbors wife, fornicating around. PRIDE - aka Hyprocricy as denounced by Jesus GREED - putting your trust in material possessions rather than God, plus not sharing with the less fortunate. ANGER - passing and expressing judgement on others that leaces GLUTTONY and SLOTH that I cannot readily find scriptural parallels to regards JakobA

I believe that only the Catholic church calls them the 7 deadly sins officially declared that in 590 AD by Pope Gregory I. Others refer to them as the 7 things God hates. They are listed in the Bible at Proverbs 6:16-19: 16 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers. They are not all illegal according to civil laws.
