Will the headphone jack on my laptop support watching DVDs in Surround Sound when plugged into the rear of my surround sound receiver?

    No. Surround Sound uses 5 or 6 seperate sound channels. One for each speaker. Your headphone jack reduces everything to stereo....just two channels. You can probably use it, but you will have stereo, not Surround Sound.
