You can make your own icons for free in any graphics program. Try Microsoft Paint to start with and remember to save the file as a JPEG. :) (Animated images must be saved in GIF format.)

You can use any program, or the ultimate in FREE how about paper and pen? My husband drew a picture, scanned it and uses it for his AIM.

google the word avater and there are many, I just dont know if they work with AIM

Pimpmyicon.com has an online buddy icon maker. You can upload any picture you want and text too. It will auto size it to work with AIM and can even set it as your buddy icon. It's all very easy to use. http://www.pimpmyicon.com
