  • "The term common sense (or as an adjective, commonsense) describes beliefs or propositions that seem, to most people, to be prudent and of sound judgment, without dependence upon esoteric knowledge. These beliefs and propositions are sometimes developed after having studied, or conducted, empirical research." - Wiki I believe common sense can be taught with experience. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_sense
  • Commonsense is the sound practical judgment that is independent of specialized knowledge, training, or the like, basicly it is the equivilant to normal native intelligence. Anyone has the ability to learn commonsense, some acquire this skill more easily and readily than others. It can take years to acquire this skill for some, as it is mastered over the span of ones life. Some never learn to master the skill, examples of immature, adolescent, and ignorant children and adults alike run rampent across the globe constantly trying futily to defy it. I am sure you have seen TV shows that these commonsense defying people can't resist appearing on, like, COPS, Jackass, Worlds Scariest Police Video's, TV's Funniest Home Video's, not to mention google video and you tube.
  • I believe all common sense is learned. Humans are not born with any knowledge whatsoever other than basic instinct for the simple purpose of survival. Most of us consider it common sense that if you stick your hand in a fire that your hand is going to be burned and it is going to hurt. But that common sense only comes from what we have been taught or learned on our own. It is not automatic. My definition of common sense would be......use of one's conscious logic or reasoning to ascertain a predictable outcome or result learned through experience.
  • common sense is what you should know. you can learn it, but only by doing. ex. you will learn not to touch a stove by touching a stove
  • Commonsense. You have it or you don't. Your capacity to learn I think determines how well you might learn commonsense. But is it really commonsense if you learn not to do it by doing it? I mean commonsense would be not doing it in the first place. So you see a log laying across a river in the woods, do you immediately start to walk across it or do you use commonsense to check if it is safe? Do you have to touch a lit stove to know it will burn you? Do you have to stick your finger in a light socket to know it will shock you? Do you have to touch fire to know it is hot? Learning from your mistakes is not commonsense, but it is commonsense to learn from your mistakes? If you don't learn from your mistakes does that mean you don't have commonsense? No, it just means you don't learn from your mistakes. There is a fine line between stupid and no commonsense but you can have commonsense and still be stupid. Learning by doing is one thing, but knowing already is commonsense.
  • Common sense is the application of practical logic and reason to a situation, as opposed to popular beliefs, emotional influences, or hopeful delusions. It is erroneously called "common" sense because it is notoriously uncommon.
  • To have common sense you must first be common. ;)
  • common sense: good sense and sound judgement in practical matters. http://www.askoxford.com/concise_oed/commonsense?view=uk Ordinary good consciousness, awareness or understanding of something, arrived at though taking in account recent events and thoughts of others involved, used for the greater good of all involved. http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/common_sense practical judgment based on experience or native intelligence, and "not on education or training." http://www.wordsmyth.net/live/home.php?script=search&matchent=common+sense&matchtype=exact Conscience is an ability or faculty or sense that leads to feelings of remorse when we do things that go against our moral values, or which informs our moral judgment before performing such an action. Such feelings are not intellectually reached, though they may cause us to 'examine our conscience' and review those moral precepts, or perhaps resolve to avoid repeating the behaviour. Commonly used metaphors refer to the "voice of conscience" or "voice within." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conscience Common sense can be learned if you start listening to your voice within.
  • when you use one of your senses, then you are already using your commonsense.. brain will not function properly if you don't use one of your common senses XD
