there are plenty but the problem is culturally the game isn't taught here so people only really participate when they get to adult age. there is a bigger following here (uk)than many americans think. i'm 20 and i only had the chance here to play properly when i was 18 so i've only had 2 years experience at a poor level of competition. there isn't the market for professional level or serious development but you will find people that are comitted and know the game deeply.

I'm Irish and my son is an AF fan, there is a AF league in Ireland with teams from all over the country competing!
