Because you could really cause an injury on someone or yourself. im sure you wouldnt wanna pay for all the damage, then the other persons injurys, then finaly yours.

Because they want you to understand that there could have been a loss of life due to the speeding.

If speeding tickets weren't expensive, what would be the deterrent? Example: You get pulled over for doing 30+ over the speed limit, the cop hands you a $5 ticket, instead of getting tagged with possible jail time for reckless endangerment and a huge fine. What stops you from doing it again?

When I get a ticket it usually tells you everything they add. They add EMS tax and all this other stuff. They are building a prison near my house and I heard that they might add a tax for that on speeding tickets.

To stop you from speeding, criminal.

I think it is to deter drivers from excessive speeding. However I don't think it will be effective for people who are very rich and can afford to pay whatever the fines.
