Time and proper aftercare (not too much, which can irritate it, and not too little). It is going to have to heal in its own proper time. I was told to take zinc and vitamin C supplements to aid with healing and, according to the net, it still recommends this.

If it is still swollen in a few weeks that is not normal. If it starts having any colored discharge, that is not normal. If pain increases instead of decreases, other than if you irritate it, that is not normal.

Listen to your piercer on this. If you feel that the bar is pinching, go back again. A bar that is too small can irritate it.

Stop putting holes in your body, for one.

Try ice and asprin? They are known to minimize inflammation.

It may feel like you need a longer bar because it is swollen, wait that out.
