A perm, is referred to as permanently curling your hair with chemicals and curlers, if done properly, the perm lasts until your hair grows out (new hair growth is not treated)

The simplest answer is that the hair that is chemically treated has been permanently affected, but your hair grows out at a given rate, and the new growth has not been treated and is therefore not affected.

A perm chemically restructures the hair. It will grow out and some medications can also cause the curl to relax. Also everything you put into your body comes out in your hair, nails, and skin therefor early curl relaxation may be the result of somthing that is being put in your body. Some shampoos and products will also take out a perm. So regardless of if the perm is done properly it is not permanent but should last three to four months. The length it lasts mostly depends on how you treat your hair. Hope this helps.
