Help answer this question below.
Just wait until the Natars show up--that's when things get a bit interesting! :P
I have played Travian (once) and was cata'd by hundreds of players sending way over a thousand attacks at the end of the game--except for being on a top guilds "Hit List" mid-game, no one really ever attacked me during the game because I grew pretty tough early on. During the last 24-hours, my cities received close to the same number of attacks as our World Wonders.
I pillaged, destroyed and cata'd to '0' so many players during and at the end of the game, so I expected to be cata'd out of the game. My guild won, of course--we had a couple of WWs and I chose not to hold one due to the enormous amount of TIME you have to put into building and defending it (it's like a 24/7 job).
At the end of the game, after a number of my cities were cata'd to '0', I still finished in the top ten (I probably had the largest army and was pretty tough). It's tough to defend yourself at the end of the game because you need to protect the WWs to win. You have to send massive amounts of resources to build it and large numbers of TROOPS and massive amounts of WHEAT to defend. Below is a video--check out the right hand corner--that's the wheat consumption!!!
Never forget...in Travian, it's the playground BULLY who wins the game.
There is no mercy for wimps. :D
Have fun...and don't sweat the blinking red sword!
:D
I used to play it and got banned from it cause I pissed Lobu off in 2007. Man he was a prick.
Can any one name a trust worthy site on the net helpful for game providers and consumers?

If this is the beginning of the game, go into the market...all the players who will eventually lose are selling their crops for 1/2 resources...you NEED crops to feed troops. BUY ALL the crops you can afford. This is where I found my "fooders"--players to steal resources from. Do the trade and time your pillage attacks for a minute after the merchant drops off your resources and you will get your resources back and some of theirs as well--depending on the size/type of your army. Build you villages, but really concentrate on your armies--this is how you get powerful and you can sit "quietly" in the lower ranks for a little while. Also, to save myself time and double the amount of resources I could receive per hour, I made other players pay me not to attack them. It works...most people are terrified of the blinking red sword and will pay you whatever you want. Just be prepared to cata them to dust if they are late or miss a payment. After you show them what happens to deadbeats..

..have them write what happens to anyone stupid enough to cross you on their profile page. You can also tell them to add that they are your slave and if anyone else steals/attacks them, they are stealing from YOU--more "fooder" opportunities for mucho resources. Never be afraid of anyone nor any guild. Don't fear the red sword because that's how you can lose. It's the bully that wins Travian. Just take advantage of the economic opportunities during the game. Crops (wheat) are the most valuable resource and only "fooders" trade it for 1/2 it's value--take advantange of that...if you don't someone else will. It's only a game, so enjoy it and don't let it take over your real life, because it can be time consuming.

Yes, its very time consuming! I have 2 sitters which helps but i also have to sit for them when i come online. I have a 9c capital with a 125% wheat oasis bonus and so far i have 8 villages. its 4 months into the game. Im rank 110. I have 2 warehouses and 2 granaries in my capital but I dont have space for a trade office there. Should I demolish something to get one? I have an armoury, brickworks, iron foundry, sawmill, blacksmith, and tournament square and i demolished by town hall and the stonemason to get another warehouse and granary for my fields. Am I playing it right do you think?

Amory, blacksmith and academy can be demolished after your upgrades are completed. You will lose the pop and culture points, but you can always throw parties.
If you use gold, make one village a market center.
You will want to grab oasis (of course) to gain max resources.
I did this with several 15 and 9-croppers.
(These were the villages that I built only defensive troops.)
I don't remember the order for building the final items...but here is the list of final buildings so you can get the max trades for resources.
Barracks
Great Barracks (for double output--good when you hold a WW)
Market
Trade Office
Heroes Mansion (to gain any oasis in the 7x7)
Bakery
Grain Mill
Palace or Residence
8 Granaries
2 Warehouses
Trade 2:1 in the market--for example offer your small resources like 1000 clay for 2000 crops. Keep doing this until your granaries are full (640,000 crops). When the granaries are close to full, go to the NPC Merchant at the Market and do a 1:1 trade.

You have just doubled your resources!!!
Now use 1/2 of those resources in the market the same way so you can double them again. Use or send the other 1/2 to other villages to build troops, bldgs, etc. If you are still farming while you are doing this, you will have soooooo many resources to build troops. If your alliance gets a hold of a WW, your market will come in very handy. I used mine to build massive amounts of defensive troops. Remember that the crops/hour are very high on their own, PLUS you gain resources that you can trade for 2:1. When you are spinning negative crops getting ready to send those troops to the WW, you will not lose even 1 to starvation. After sending them, you will have massive amounts of crop to supply the WW while building more defensive troops constantly.
