I'm not sure if the laws are the same in Queens, but they should be similar everywhere. First, I've never heard of a 'cell phone ticket' so I don't exactly know what kind of charge it is. If it's like a speeding ticket, then if you give the courts enough notice, you can reschedule. Be sure you tell them of your circumstances and your willingness to attend. Depending on who you talk to they may move it forward, although this is not a lot of notice for them. (They usually like a week or more) Going to the bureau and pleading guilty (paying) is always an option. A government would never refuse money. What you do is up to you. Try moving the date. Yes. a death in the family is an allowable excuse for another court date. paying the citation is ok, but i would have my day in court.
