Most companies will do a trace and/or block that number.

*57, contact the local law enforcement if it continues, they will ask the phone company for the tracable phone number and go after them. Or just hang up.

You can have your number changed without charge if it's because of nuissance calls.

stop answering the phone when caller ID says "out of area"...OR hang up as soon as they start their yacking. If they leave a message, nothing says you have to listen to it before you hit delete. They will eventually give up or grow up.

Almost all phone companies have a *57 code you dial in after receiving a harassing phone call. And the call does Not have to be threatening at all, just annoying and especially if you have told the person to stop. After the phone company recieved 3 *57 complaints on a particular number they will start to take action - minimum they will send the owner of the number a letter letting them know that having a phone is a priviledge NOT a right and that the priviledge can be revoked by them. If they continue to receive *57 complaints after sending the letter out they will take further action included involving the police. This has worked for me in the past. I also prior to this service, kept the person on the line and then asked him if he was wondering why I was talking to him........then proceeded to tell him that I just needed to keep him on the phone long enough for the trace to work..........never heard from him again.
