What makes a person think their words could affect/infect someone else? Someone thinks that, but nothing's getting to me.

Words can affect people. Thats why there is such a thing as emotional abuse. Well then you are just one of the lucky ones.

They may not affect you, but some people will go as far as killing themselves or others over words. Speech is more powerful than you think.

On the contrary. That someone influenced you enough to post a question about it. That much we can SEE. Who knows what other ways that person's words have influenced you. ALL words influence though we may not understand, realize or see the immediate effect. Those of us that study spirituality are never upset or discouraged if we offer suggestions or bits of advice that are seemingly ignored. We understand that we plant seeds that are nourished in due time, according to the needs of the listener. Whether we're aware of the results or not is inconsequential. That's why those who "know" endeavor to be responsible for what they say and are particularly aware of their environment, so as not to be unduly influenced.
