  • No. Not at all. That is discrimination, because it is personal for you, not for them. They are doing their job like everyone else there. It would be justified to lay off the ones who do less for the business.
  • Only if they are openly gay and activists. Don't make the mistake a lot of people do and wrongly assume. I would be surprised that they wouldn't voluntarily leave.
  • I do not agree with the action of such protesters (not all activists are going to try to have businesses like this shut down)... at all. Regardless of my opinion on the topic I believe that people have the right to support prop 8 just like the protesters have the right to support gay marriage. However, I think it would be wrong of someone to lay off good employees because of their sexuality. If the employees are good employees and not part of the protesters why should they be penalized for actions they did not do?
  • Of course not - but moral and legal are different things and whether it is legal to do so would depend on the laws of the state in question as there is no federal legislation protecting gays from employment discrimination. The wisest businesses will avoid taking sides in controversial politics. On both sides of the aisle, people are increasingly chosing to spend their money elsewhere - and civil rights is a show stopper for many.
  • Sure, but only if you want to be picked more and then sued for discrimination
  • No, laying off employees due to their orientation is completely against the law and would be further cause to protest the business. If businesses don't want to be protested against, they shouldn't contribute towards causes that take civil rights away from citizens. Protest is part of free speech and should not be infringed upon, as long as that speech is not causing bodily harm on an individual.
  • That is just sick. The protestors are clammering on about equal rights but they are happy to take away the rights of others. Sick. oh, and they go on about discrimination and then discriminate against Christians. It ashames my to be a lesbian.
  • if they individualy had any fault in the activity then yes. if they have no hand in the activities of the gay protestors then no, their homosexuality should not have any bearing on their employment even if the job is dwindling because of other homosexuals. fire the least beneficial to the company first wether straight or gay. however you might have a lawsuit against the protestors... operah was once sued because after she said "I'll never eat beef again" beef sales dwindled.
  • First of all, a business should never officially endorse a political stance. That is the role of the individual, not the corporation. It is morally and ethically wrong to speak for your employees and pigeon hole them into representing your own personal beliefs. Employees of the business would be justified in suing the business for speaking for them. Secondly, while you can hire and fire at will in today's economy, engaging in open persecution of people for their sexual preference could lead to a far faster and exponentially more costly end to the business once your attorney's bill comes in the mail.
